Central District:2008-2009
This concludes another great year of basketball in the Central District. A lot of great games were played this year, some shocking upsets also. Delaware beating Dublin Coffman, Gahanna beating Grove City, and Thomas Worthington hanging losses on both Dublin Coffman and Upper Arlington were just some of the few that occured this year. Being a fan and a part of the OCC, I tried to digest just about every game that was played this year, and some teams suprised me, and some were dissapointing.
Suprising
- Dublin Coffman-Playing with a team of all sophomores and juniors, the Rocks won the OCC-Central crown, and played into the district final.
- Westerville North-This team was this year’s Cinderella, coming into the tourney 10-10. They suprised people by winning beating both #9 Gahanna, and #8 Westerville South.
Dissapointing
- Upper Arlington-Going 17-6 and making it to the district semi’s is good enough for most teams. But for UA, they started out the year 10-0 and tanked it the rest of the way, losing three of five at one point, and got ran out of the gym by Newark 74-65.
- Mount Vernon- Being picked to win the OCC-Capital, the Jackets finished 2nd in their division, and were humiliated by Grove City in the district semifinals 59-31.
Congrads to the league champions of the OCC and City League:
- OCC Central-Dublin Coffman (17-3, 13-1)
- OCC Capital-Olentangy Orange(15-5,9-3)
- OCC Ohio-Newark/Grove City
- OCC Cardinal-Dublin Scioto(19-1, 14-0)
- City League North-Northland(19-1, 15-0)
- City League South-Eastmoor Academy (14-6,12-3)
