The Reds lost key right fielder Jay Bruce last night in the 4-0 loss to the Mets. He was put on the 15- day disabled list with a broken right wrist. He broke the wrist diving for a ball last night in the 1st inning, and his glove and the wrist bent back, and the wrist snapped back and flung the ball out of the glove. The dropped ball lead to 3 of the 4 Mets runs last night. “We’ve been operating short enough this year,” Baker said. “[General manager] Walt [Jocketty] is going to try and get someone here in the morning. I’m not exactly sure who.” They did call up IF Adam Rosales, the hustler, a Ryan Freel-type player that gives 110%.

The problem last night, was Johnny Cueto. He has 3 poor starts in his last 5 trips to the mound. He pitched poorly in Philly, with his nice stat line of: 2/3 IP, 5 H, 9 ER, 3 BB. He’s been rocky, to say the least, and if he keeps having this kind of inconsistency, the Reds are gonna have a tough time staying in the race.

The Reds have fallen down 4-0 already today, Harang not pitching solidly already. It’s gonna be a rough All-Star break for them. The talk of trade is gonna be very prevalent in Cincy, and on the sports radio stations. This team is not out of the race by any stretch of the imagination, but at the rate they are playing, they will be watching the pennant race from the cellar, right next to the Pirates.
