Phillies Say No To Jays Trade
Being in the drivers seat to acquire the Toronto Blue Jays Roy Halladay, the Phillies turned down a request today that would have sent 3 players, which were two pitchers and an outfield prospect to Toronto for Halladay. The Phillies (54-40) were opposed to giving up two of their more important pitchers in J.A. Happ and Kyle Drabek. The trade deadline is not until next Friday, but the Jays (47-50) would like to have the deal done before Roy’s next start on Wednesday against the Mariners. Some of the names being thrown around by the Phils includes outfielder Michael Taylor, catcher Lou Marson and shortstop Jason Donald.
Halladay doesn’t believe that he will get dealt at all. “”Right now, yeah, I think I will be here. If there was an urgency to be somewhere else, and an urgency for the team to have me somewhere else, I think it’d be different. I just don’t get that feeling.” said the Jays ace, who is 11-3 with a 2.62 ERA this season. He is under contract until 2010, and has some teams he would approve a trade to, he told Jays management.
He told some that his plans for the future have not really been thought about. There was nothing said that he didn’t say anything about signing an extenstion after his contract is up, he wants to see how the next year and a half plays out. “I feel like it’s just something that I don’t want to try and look that far in the future right now,” Halladay said. “I would rather assess the situation when my contract is up. … It’s not that I want to go somewhere else, or I want to play somewhere else, but I really feel like I’ve fulfilled a lot of obligations, and I think at some point, you have to be a little bit selfish in what you want.”
