Do The Reds Still Play Baseball?
Sometimes, I wonder. Today is another case of that question popping up in a 5-3 loss today to the Cubbies. Johnny Cueto (8-7) had another semi-rough first inning, giving up three runs, one of them a long ball by Aramis Ramirez, his 7th of the year, but second in the last two days. In total, the Reds hurler surrendered 5 hits in the first inning alone, and survived only because of a Kevin Hart strikeout. Speaking of the Cubs (50-45) pitcher, who had a good day on the mound, giving up only
Phillies Say No To Jays Trade
Being in the drivers seat to acquire the Toronto Blue Jays Roy Halladay, the Phillies turned down a request today that would have sent 3 players, which were two pitchers and an outfield prospect to Toronto for Halladay. The Phillies (54-40) were opposed to giving up two of their more important pitchers in J.A. Happ and Kyle Drabek. The trade deadline is not until next Friday, but the Jays (47-50) would like to have the deal done before Roy’s next start on Wednesday against the Mariners. Some of the names being thrown around by the Phils includes
Crew To Try Jump Over Fire Against Toronto FC
Currently only one point behind the Eastern Conference leading Chicago (7-3-7), the Columbus Crew are looking to leap over the Fire into first place in tonight’s game against Toronto FC. The Trillium Cup is on the line for both teams, a rivalry trophy started last year by both teams, and the mayors of both cities agreed to
Tripping and Falling, But Not Losing Any Ground

In baseball, the key to making a race at a crown is getting hot at the perfect time to make up games. Cooling off takes perfect timing also, I guess. The Reds (44-50) have hit a rough patch one week after the All-Star break, going 2-5 in the first seven back. However, they have lost NO games in the standings, still 5.5 games back of division leading St. Louis (51-46), who also has stumbled, losing 4 of their last 6 after the mid-point of the season. Cincinnati, a team that gave up an average of
BoSox Get LaRoche for Prospects
The Red Sox acquired a key ingredient today to their lineup, getting the Pirates Adam LaRoche while giving up two minor league prospects in shortstop Argenis Diaz and right-hander Hunter Strickland. The trade helps the Red Sox get some needed depth at first base. With LaRoche, they can rest Mike Lowell more often, giving him a chance to nurse his
Roethlisberger Flagged For Sexual Assualt
Two days after tying for 30th in the American Celebrity Golf Challenge, Ben Roethlisberger was accused of sexually assulting an employee of Harrah’s Lake Tahoe hotel in Nevada last July. Also, the suit shows that eight employees helped cover the situation up. David Cornwell, Roethlisberger’s attorney made this statement today, saying that “Ben has never sexually assaulted anyone.” He goes on to say that, “If an investigation is commenced, Ben will cooperate fully and Ben will be fully exonerated.”
The entire complaint has been released onto the NBC Sports website. Some of the excerpts from the statement include,
He's Safe! No…. He's Out?
In one of the best games of the season last night, the Athletics (39-52) came back from a 12-2 deficit in the third inning to win 14-13. The Twins (47-46) had built up the lead on the long ball. Home runs by Morneau, Kubel, and Cuddyer built the lead up to ten runs. Morneau had 7 RBIs in his first 2 official at bats, walking on his first plate appearance in the first inning. The game seemed to be in lock for the Twins, the only other time they had blown a 10-run lead was September 28th, 1984, at Cleveland. It surely wasn’t gonna happen again…

Clippers Gain Three In Deal With Wolves

In one of the first major trades of the NBA summer, the Minnesota Timberwolves traded away Sebastian Telfair, and forwards Mark Madsen and Craig Smith, in return for the LA Clippers Quentin Richardson. The trade gives the ‘Wolves some cap room due to getting rid of Telfair’s 2.7 million dollar contract. Minnesota owner
Summer League Success=Regular Season Success?

Even when my main focus isn’t on my NBA team, the Nuggets, they seemed to have picked up a great player. It pains me to say what school he is from–he lit up my beloved Blue Devils this year twice, but UNC grad Ty Lawson is really shining in his last three games in the NBA’s summer league, averaging around
4 Down, 6 To Go

Brewers. “Mannywood.” Wrigley.
Only two-fifths of the way done with the brutal schedule to begin the second half of the baseball season, the Reds (44-47) are 5 1/2 games outside of first place. They are heading into a difficult next 6 games, all on the road, 3 with the Dodgers (58-34), and another 3 with the Cubs (47-43), who swept the lowly Washington Nationals in 4 games over last weekend. The Dodgers have the
