Webb Opts To Have Surgery
Having only one start in 2009, Arizona’s Brandon Webb is going to undergo surgery on his right shoulder today. They are not sure of the extent of the damage, but Keith Meister, the team physician for the Rangers is going to perform the surgery. “He thinks my labrum is fine. As of right now he is going in to do general cleanup,” Webb said to MLB.com yesterday. If this is all that is done, the Diamondbacks are going to be happy, because the surgery won’t take long, and is very minor.
The extent of the surgery could possibly determine what Arizona does with its ace. Webb is due to be a free agent at the end of the season, but his 2010 option is 8.5 million, or just buy the contract out for 2 million. “We’ve still got in the neighborhood of 100 days before we have to make that decision,” DBacks GM Josh Byrnes said. ”He’s been a tremendous pitcher for this organization and he’s obviously a tremendous person within the walls of the organization. We’re going to use all the information we can gather in the next 100 days or so to make the best decision.”
