Vick Signs With Eagles
After missing the 2007 and 2008 seasons while encarcerated on charges relating to dog fighting, do it all QB Michael Vick has signed a one year deal with an option for 2010 worth 1.6 million dollars. Vick, who last played on December 31, 2006 against the Eagles, will be eligible to play the final preseason games along with practicing with the team, with an option for full reinstatement by week 6.
Some would think this move would be hurtful to Donovan McNabb, but the opposite is true as McNabb pleaded with Andy Reid to bring the five year veteran in. Vick is coming off his best season in ’06, where he passed for 20 TD’s along with rushing for 1.033 yards, an NFL record. Vick has been introduced during a press conference which can be seen on ESPN and ESPNEWS right now. Philadelphia tried running the Wildcat last season with rookie Desean Jackson, which was unsuccessful.
Vick, who has all the athletic capabilites, should be a great fit for the Eagles and will be used extensively all over the field. A team with many weapons on offense this season, an attribute that has been non existant as of late features Jackson, RB Brian Westbrook, RB Lesean McCoy, and WR Jeremy Maclin. With such great weapons, the Eagles look like the best team in the NFC East this season, with teams like Dallas and New York declining from the loss of their top receivers. Washington spent mega bucks on DT Albert Haynesworth, but have a QB issue with Jason Campbell, with no clear back up. Let’s see what kind of bite will come from this move, no pun intended, and see if Vick can truly take advantage of his second chance and help lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl.
