Five Impact Players You May Not Know About
With Ohio State Football comes success, big victories and massive paychecks following collegiate careers. This upcoming 2009 season looks much the same as the Buckeyes feature a dual threat quarterback in Terrelle Pryor, a stockpile of talented running backs and receivers and a defensive line that could be one of the best in college football. With the big names come big expectations, but for Ohio State this year, there are a talented pool of skill players that will make an impact this season and here is the list of the top impact players unknown to the average fan.
Michigan Could Face Trouble Far Worse Than a Loss
There used to be a time where Michigan Football was prominent among the nation and the Wolverines actually won games. The Maize and Blue used to beat Ohio State, win bowl games, and compete for the Big Ten title. Nowadays, under the direction of Rich Rodriguez, the program that holds the title as the winningest program in college football history, is under scrutiny for multiple accusations of wrongdoing and NCAA violations. Even after going 3-9,
Miami Looks to Bring the Storm to The Shoe in 2010

With the USC Trojans on the schedule this season, it seems that this is the last marquee non conference game for the Ohio State in a few years as this has been a trend for the Buckeyes. After facing off against Texas in 2006, it took two years before USC was on the schedule. Well, the Miami game next season willl be better than this year’s USC game as many have predicted the matchup in The Horseshoe will showcase two of the best teams in the country.
Iowa Seeks Upset in Columbus
A year after winning the Big Ten’s only bowl game, the Iowa Hawkeyes are out to upset the Ohio State Buckeyes and show the nation just what they are all about. Kirk Ferentz has his team focused on the Buckeyes, even resorting to putting Buckeye decals all over the equipment in the weight room.
Like Father, Like Son

Despite losing top receivers Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline to the NFL Draft, the Ohio State offense comes back better than ever, stockpiled full of receivers with speed to make your jaw drop. Over three seasons, Robiskie and Hartline combined to catch 217 passes for 3,295 yards and 36 touchdowns. Losing two big targets, the fair-weathered fan would think Ohio State would be struggling to find another target, similar to the position of Penn State after losing Deon Butler, Jordan Norwood and Derrick Williams.
Defensive Line Set to Lead the Buckeye Defense

Not since the days of Will Smith AKA “The Fresh Prince of Columbus,” has an Ohio State defense been lead by the front four. Ever since the 2003 season, the Buckeyes have featured linebacking corps that have been the best part of the defense, this season, the defensive line is set to steal the show.
Fleer’s Top College Defensive Ends
A few years removed from Mario Williams being selected first overall in the NFL Draft over names such as Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Jay Cutler and Matt Lienart, the defensive end position is becoming one of the most important not only on defense but overall. Getting adequate pressure on the quarterback is essential in a changing game and there are a select few that excel at it. The modern defensive end is big, fast and athletic. Vernon Gholston is the perfect prototype, at 6’3″ 245 lbs and running a 4.5, the position is becoming one where the best athletes excel. To be a stellar defensive end, you must be strong, fast and able to have the athletic ability to get around the offensive line. These select group of young men showcase that ability and that leads to the number of sacks they put up and help the defense thrive. With such an intriguing position, don’t be surprised if the list goes over ten, enjoy!
Clarett To Back Off Early Release Request
The NFL is just going to have to wait another year for ex-Buckeye Maurice Clarett. Clarett had earlier applied to get early parole, but on Monday sent a letter to the Ohio Parole Board stating he wanted to withdraw the request to leave the Toledo prison early. He had been there since 2006, when he was given the minimum sentence of 3 and a half years for a
