Tapulous’s new version of TTR is out, released yesterday into the App Store for 0.99$. This version has an all new look and design to it, and looks to be the best of the three complete Tap Tap versions. Some of the new features include:

Quickplay: For those of you on the go, you can just play a song by scrolling to quick on the main menu, and pressing play. The app will randomly choose a song for you, and then you can start playing.

New Online Features: Instead of the old, dull race to get the highest score against people around the world, you can now “silence” your opponents, or throw goo at them. Also, outside of just playing the game, you can now message other people that you meet while playing the game, and create your own personal avatar.

Levels and Achievements: When you don’t have the internet connection or the motivation to beat other people online, you can still have a lot of fun with the single player mode. The new levels system is a great addition to TTR, and each new level can be achieved by playing (and scoring well) on the songs that you attempt. In connection with online mode also, certain game rooms can only be played in if you have achieved a certain level.

Gameplay: The actual in-game play on TTR3 is very well done. There is a similarity to Guitar Hero or Rock Band in the sense that if you hit a certain streak of notes in a row (they are stars instead of circles), you can activate the star that will show up next to the notes. By activating that star, you get to have a 16x multiplier for 10 seconds, and the multiplier stays no matter how bad you do in that 10 seconds. Also, you now can see the percentage of notes you have hit in the top right corner, a running score that is up to date.

Price: A lot of people may complain that they actually have to pay for this version of Tap Tap, but I think the game itself is worth the .99 cents Tapulous is asking for. It gives you a lot of bang for your buck, and beats most of the 1$ apps out there currently.

Overall: This game is a must have for anyone who loves the TTR series, and the 1$ shouldn’t break the bank for anyone. I’ve been hooked since I bought it.

Score: 10/10

EB: So that was a nice road win by the Bucks last Saturday wasn’t it?

JM: Yes, it really was. Added to that, it was in a night game in the Big Ten, which is always tough, even if it was just Indiana.

EB: I agree, the Hoosiers just didn’t look like the same team they did the week before when they nearly upset Michigan.

JM: They really didn’t at all. On the flip side, this week it’s a more run-orientated team in Wisconsin. They’ve always been known to keep the ball on the ground with tough running backs.

EB: So the game is at 3:30 tomorrow right?

JM: Yup, on ABC also. Any prediction?

EB: Well the Bucks will contain Wisconsin’s rushing game, so I say __-__ Ohio State. Not much trouble at all, even with the Badgers coming in undefeated. And you?

JM: In the early years of Tressel, we didn’t play well against Wisconsin, but as of late we have turned it around. The past losses to them will be forgotten once more, I say we dominate from start to finish, and beat them 38-6.

This new installment of the iPod/iPhone app reviews gives you a new spin on mini racing. Nano Rally, coming it at a cheap 0.99$. The only thing that is not small about it is the file size, a hefty 57.5MB of space. For most users, we can fit that without any problem. The app itself is a keeper, a fun race game that can really truly be addicting. The company that produced it, SD Games, has other games that are excellent also, and I will soon be reviewing them as well.

Controls/Visuals: This is the only downfall of the game I think. The tilt controls are excellent, I highly reccomend using them instead of the left and right buttons. Personally, the game would be better if it were done in landscape mode, rather than portrait. You can also set the game to automatically get on the gas pedal by itself.

Gameplay: When it just comes down to racing, this game is good. You have to win to unlock tracks, something that I find really challenging. You can do a career type mode, that is where you unlock the other 6 sections of the tracks. There are a total of 25 tracks that you can have once you unlock them all.

The physics of the game in my opinion are fairly solid. The title has rally in it, so the drifting is going to play a part in the racing itself. I think that the devolopers made the game fairly realistic, and the racing is good. The AI racers (you just see their times, not them physically) are very difficult I think.

Summary: This is an app I recommend to anyone who likes to just have a fun racing game to play on occasion. I play this once a day or so, and it’s a fun little racing game to enjoy from time to time. Some of the downfalls bring this game off of a chance to be on my top 10 apps list.

Score: 7.5/10

When you think of going to a baseball game, people always have their own things they enjoy when they go: eating peanuts, the 7th inning stretch, eating a brat, and what I enjoy most. I enjoy using an old-fashioned scorecard to keep track of what each player does at the plate, and where they hit, to what base they got, and so on and so forth. Lately, I’ve been using this app while watching games at home, just for the fun of it. The application on the iPod Touch/iPhone called iScore (4.99) is far and away the best I’ve used. It takes a little bit of time getting used to, but once you understand the controls, it is well worth the 4.99 asking price, which adds up to less than the cost of 3 scorecards at most baseball games.

In the beginning, if you have a team you score constantly, you can just create the whole team in the team manager section, as shown above. If you do it correctly, you can keep stats for the games that you score. The stats can be emailed to yourself for easy printing. They print nicely onto a page.

Once you have your teams, you set the lineup with the 9 players on the field for both teams. Then, the controls are fairly self explanatory, until you get to switching out players, etc. The scorecard prints out as if you were at a ball game. Also, if you know the type, speed, and location of any pitch, you can flick your finger to the left, and it will pull up a screen where you can enter the data you know for the pitch. That screen will reset as soon as the next pitch comes along. It will keep a running tally of where each pitch landed in the box.

Overall: This app is a winner, it’s great for scoring games at the ballpark, on TV, or any other place. The only downside I see is that it’s kinda tough to learn how to sub players the right way so that they show up correctly when you try and print the box score. That’s the only thing preventing it from being a higher 9/perfect 10.

Score: 9.1/10

I am going to bring iPod Touch/iPhone sports application reviews back to the site, just for those of you out there that have one and don’t wanna waste your money on bad games. This game is not a bad game at all. In fact, the company (Skyworks Interactive) has about 15 sports type applications that you should look at. The cost is awesome for the quality of game you get (usually full versions run from .99 to 2.99). They also have lite versions of the application that you can try some parts of the games for free, and if you like you can upgrade to the paid version. (Click on picture below to by from iTunes App Store)

The air hockey app is a tough one to find out there. There are lots of them, and they have small differences between all of them, but this one is the one I settled on. There are three modes:

Practice Mode- You choose to play a game to 7 against the opponent of your choice, with different levels of difficulty for each opponent.

Head-to-Head- Two players on the same iPod Touch, haven’t tried it yet, but looks to be very good, just taking a run through look at it.

Tournament Mode- You choose to be the country of your choice, and try and win the 8-team tournament, with a high score running at the top, and you can post your tournament score to see how you fare against the rest of the world*. (2600 points for a goal, -800 points if you give up a goal.)

Overall: This game is very nicely done, I have not encountered any glitches with the game at all, and I have the new firmware for the Touch (3.0). Can be addicting if you keep losing in the championship game.

Final score: 10/10.

This new installment of my iPod app reviews has a baseball theme to it for the beginning of the year. Priced at 9.99, this is one of the more expensive apps, but is well worth it if you are away from home (like me), and want to listen to your favorite team. If you have the Touch, you can get a WiFi connection and listen to the games, or if you have a iPhone you can get it off your 3G connection. Some of its features include:

Scoreboard- Daily look at the scores, and interactive up to the minute in game box scores. Really quick updating scores I might add.

Videos- As a game is going on, you may get to see some of the top plays that previously occured, whether it be a home run or great play.

Radio- This is the main reason I bought this, because sometimes my radio doesn’t work that well, and I don’t wanna shell out 15 bucks to buy the package on MLB.com that has the radio. The only problem is the clarity of the radio is not that great, but it still works very very well.

Summary: I think this is a must have for any baseball fan traveling on the road with an iPhone, it certainly beats spending 15 bucks on the service at MLB.com. They are both ran by MLB, but this one is by far the better deal.

Overall: 8/10
